This article was originally published in 2015. It's been updated because a lot has happened.
Back then, I was talking with a Hubspot VP and his comment was, "I'm reminded how little Owner Ollie knows about running a business."
I thought, "Exactly."
Don't misunderstand. He wasn't saying that Owner Ollie was incompetent, only that a Billion dollar enterprise has a separate VP for everything that needs to be done. Owner Ollie is good at sales or an expert in his field or is really good at something, but he wasn't good at everything. As a matter of fact, a few years ago, I pointed our that 80% of all businesses fall into this category and sadly, most of them aren't as successful as they could be.
Warning: Don't get your panties in a twist if you're not 44 years old with 3 kids, or you're not male, or you don't have a BA in History. As you know, I do really well with engineers and 30 somethings and I really like girls. The danger with personas is that they're averages, not always exact descriptions and trying to force a persona usually leads to resistance.
OK, so new and revised for 2018, if you could be an Owner Ollie that is not as successful as you'd like to be,
- Think about your Sales Core Competencies.
- Check out Hubspot,
- and get them working with your website.
- Talk to Brand Builders.
When you finish, you'll have a pretty good idea of what you need to do in the next three months to kill it in the next twelve months and if you don't, schedule a 15-20 minute call and I'll help.
